Resumo: The book Chronicles of a Boy (2005), by Marcos Fábio Belo Matos (1972-), a writer from the state of Maranhão, discusses, among other issues, the childhood reminiscences experienced by the narrator. The narrative is presented in a light, goodhumored way and can enable the reader, both children and adults, to identify with some of the chapters in the book. The memories of a child are projected and serve as essential references, they are established in socially marked spaces, such as: school, church, home, and are always assisted by the family, because it is through the family that the images are transported. In this sense, this dissertation has the general objective of perceiving the spaces of cultural memory present in the narrative, in which passages of the narration these spaces transcend and elevate the culture of a certain social group, represented by the writer and his childish reminiscences. This research presents as a guiding question: "In what way the work Chronicles of a Boy is constituted as a place of cultural memory"? For the elaboration of this construct, it was used the bibliographical research having as foundation texts of renowned theorists connected to memory, such as: Paul Ricouer (2007), Maurice Halbwachs (2006) and Jan Assmann (2008). Thus, this study becomes relevant for showing that the narratives of the book Chronicles of a Boy (2005) bring individual, collective or cultural memories based on a nostalgia in which the individual comes into contact with his cultural identity through the places of memory, besides the uniqueness of the work chosen as the object of research.
