Resumo: | The objective of this study was to analyze the correlation of gender, age and pain in the imaging findings of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of subjects with temporomandibular disorders (TMD). MRI reports, which also contained clinical information of 199 patients with TMD were analyzed by assessing the presence of morphological changes, disc displacement with reduction (DDR) and without reduction (DDwR), bone edema, effusion, avascular necrosis and pain, according to Visual Analogue Scale. The sample was divided into 4 groups according to age and statistical analyzes were made using the chi-square test, Fisher's exact and models of univariate and multivariate logistic adopting an alpha of 5%. When compared to the younger group of the research, the oldest group was three times more likely to present morphological changes (p<0.05). The DDwR was more frequent in females (p<0.05). After analysis, one leading to consideration the individual as observational unit and the other, the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), the presence of effusion and DDwR maintained their behavior, and were correlated with severe pain (p<0.05). Considering the results and limitations of the study, it can concluded that different diagnoses are found among different ages and genders of patients with TMJ pain and that mainly DDwR and effusion are related to higher levels of pain. |
