Resumo: Historically the identity of professional psychology is linked to the clinical area, however there is a growing idea of its social commitment. The insertion of psychologists in the field of public policy, specifically in social assistance policy must be grounded in a critical view of the area and a commitment to the urgencies of Brazilian society from the perspective of Social Welfare and social security policy. The research aimed to verify that the identity of the active psychologists in the field of public policy, specifically in the field of social assistance have been building in their work, through conducting literature review and technical application of interview groups with psychologists working in the area Social assistance, specifically in the CRAS of Maringa region.
