Resumo: | The diffusion of the use of information technologies in nursing such as software, hardware or strategic tools makes it possible to provide care to the patient with greater safety and also to optimize management processes. Considering the relevance of technological resources in nursing, the present study had the objective of taking the perceptions of nursing professionals about the use of computerization in the promotion of patient safety. This descriptive and exploratory, qualitative approach had the participation of 52 members of the nursing staff of a hospital in Southern Brazil, equipped with a computerized system. Data collection took place in November 2016, through taped interviews, previously scheduled, in a private place, based on the Question: "Tell me about the relationship between computerization and patient safety in this hospital". All the ethical precepts were met in the operationalization of this study. The treatment and the analysis of data occurred through the Content Analysis technique, in the Thematic Analysis modality proposed by Bardin and the results were discussed based on the relevant literature on patient safety and Information Technology in Health and Nursing. Considering the socio-demographic data, we verified prevalence of female participants, married, aged 24 to 62 years and the period working in the institution ranged between one and five years. From the interviews, the following categories emerged: Computerization in promotion of patient safety: Perceptions of nursing professionals, which discusses the advantages of checking medications administered; improved patient identification, easy access to patient clinical information and also the existing gaps in computerization, such as: lack of training/awareness of workers, deficient infrastructure for the proper use of the system and; Computerization and the nursing action in a public hospital, which highlights the advantages the computerized system provides to access and processing information to assistance and decision making. In addition, it discusses obstacles related to the number of insufficient equipment, connection failures and lack of knowledge/adherence of the team to use the computerized tool. According to the participants, the use of the computerized system is important for the promotion of safe care, however, when there is lack of training and equipment, there may be failures in information management and; consequently, on the safety of care. In this way, it is suggested the unconditional participation of the nursing in the processes of implementation, use and monitoring of computerized tools in health institutions, along with the practice of permanent education, related to information technology and assistance, to the whole team. |
