This research sought to follow the way of housewives in Brazil, between 1967 and 1972, in their activities in the kitchen, notably, the knowledge and practices involved in the arts of decorating, cooking and decorating tables. The idea of consumption involved in the decoration, from the point of view of fashion, and the textile making for that space are combined with the presentation of the foods that communicate on the table about the lifestyle and the feelings of the housewives in their work in the kitchen. To this end, the encyclopedias of Abril Cultural Mãos de Ouro and Bom Apetite were taken by documentary sources, which, transmitted the period covered by the research, provided representations of modernity and femininity
