Resumo: This work consists of research on the process of ascension of the characters of the novel O filho de mil homens (2013), by the portuguese writer Valter Hugo Mãe, in which love is taken as a form of negotiation of the incompleteness of the subject, which hitherto prevented their happiness. Thus, in dialogue with the ideas of Platão (([380 a.C.] 2016), André Comte-Sponville (2015, 2016), Zygmunt Bauman (2003), Alessandra Leilla Borges Gomes Fernandes (2008, 2014), José Miguel Wisnik (2009), Tzvetan Todorov (2013) Alain Badiou (2002), Sabrina Sedlmayer (1995, 2001) and other discursive references, it has verified that the novel follows in a variant sense in relation to the representations already consecrated by the fiction and the theories that sought to understand the amorous event. With this, it is inferred that Valter Hugo Mãe, who works on this aspect, has located in happy love an operator for the reconstruction of the subjectivities that have lost the sense of completeness by different order (the lack of paternity, orphanage, the violence of homophobia, love, etc.), and from which the encounter between the self and the other is re-formed, forming a family supported by the positivity of inter-human relations.
