Resumo: |
This study aims to describe the etymological and pseudo-etymological spellings in personal letters of the 19th and 20th centuries, which can collaborate with the characterization of the familiarity level of the writers with the skill of writing. The analysis of the rate of errors and hits is a method that can contribute with the identification of the writers profiles, and more specifically, of their levels of literacy. The use of etymologies, as a mark of a high writing standards, has been calculated through the methodology proposed by Barbosa (2006) and Barbosa and Lima (2019), on documents from the collections: Private Letters from the Bahia Recôncavo, Letters to Severino Vieira, Letters from the Collection Dr. João da Costa Pinto Victória and Letters in Sisal. This research presents a proposal, therefore, still not widely studied in the perspective of the constitution of corpora, inserted in the context of Historical Sociolinguistics and the Social History of Written Culture, fields that dialogue with each other. The results of the analysis show low rates of graphic etymologization, as well as, in general, few cases of pseudo-etymologizations, since most of the writers were part of writing practices networks of their time. |
