Resumo: Women have long been relegated to silence, and over the years, through many struggles, they have conquered their space in the most diverse spheres of society. In the literary field, this possibility of expressing themselves has changed the female representations present in literary works. If before only men talked about women, in the last decades female writers have had their work recognized and have managed to bring to the scenes a profusion of female characters seen through different prisms/angles. The construction in fiction of identities based on real women starts to break with the stereotypes fixed by the literary tradition notoriously composed by men. Memory is also an aspect very dear to women's experiences. Whether through the writing of diaries and other intimate texts or the transmission of stories through generations, women have always had an attachment to memories. Despite the advances in favor of the valorization of women's writing, many other efforts still need to be undertaken. The literature produced by women in Paraná, for example, is unknown both locally and in wider spheres. Thus, we intend to give greater visibility to women's writing, with a focus on the Paraná scenario, based on the book As filhas de Manuela (2017), by Bárbara Lia. We aim to analyze this novel seeking to recognize the memory of pain in the constitution of the female characters' identity; to observe the rupture with stereotypes of women constructed from the patriarchal vision; to identify characteristics of contemporary literature written by women and to collaborate to the construction of the critical fortune of the writer from Paraná, Bárbara Lia. The methodology that guides this reflection is literary hermeneutics. The theoretical framework is composed, mainly, by the texts of Agamben (2009) and Schollhammer (2009), discussing the concept of contemporary; Teixeira (2008, 2009) and Zolin (2009, 2019), approaching women's writing; Hall (2006) and Bauman (2005), reflecting on identities; Chartier (1991) and Dalcastagnè (2007, 2012), dealing with representation. To discuss the concept of memory, we draw on the ideas of Bergson (1999) and Halbwachs (1990) and the ensuing reflections undertaken by Candau (2019), Bosi (1994), Bernd (2013, 2018), Sarlo (2007), Pollak (1989) and Assmann (2011). In addition, we utilize the studies of Beauvoir (1967), Perrot (2005, 2007), and Pinsky (2013, 2014) to better understand the female condition throughout history. Through this study, we highlight that the way each woman deals with a curse cast against her family influences the constitution of their identities, as some are afraid and remain submissive to patriarchal impositions regarding female conduct and others are unaffected by this memory of pain and transgress the limits prescribed by society to women.
