The research aims to investigate constitutive aspects of the modernization of urban space in Curitiba / PR represented in the pages of journals Paraná Eye Street, The Modern and The Paraná pump, which circulated in the capital in the early decades of the twentieth century process. The corpus analyzed consists of stories, cartoons and advertisements that operate as symbolic sites of memory. In this approach the theories related to Cultural History and Theory of Communication underpins the discussion and analysis of texts, and enable reflections on understanding the reorganization of urban space, given the inclusion of women as an element of modernity. The results showed that the modern city as well as a place of memory, terminating another space: the magazines, which produce new models for the identification and behavior, act as tools of social representation, demonstrating a vision of the world that may or may not correspond to reality
