Resumo: |
The objective of this work was to create a comparable series of the main fiscal statistics of the five largest countries in Latin America - Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Mexico - in the period of two decades: 1999 to 2019. The methodology of the fiscal indicators was based on the IMF GFSM manual. We analyzed the behavior of fiscal policy at two different times, the pre-international crisis of 2008 (1999-2008) and the post-international crisis of 2008 (2010-2019), taking into account the main theories related to fiscal policy and economic growth. Our main conclusions were that countries were impacted in different ways and intensities, according to their pre-established trajectories - influencing faster or slower recoveries. However, the post-crisis period has been one of great difficulties - poor fiscal results and economic performance and great financing needs. |
