Resumo: |
The Green Revolution modernized the Brazilian agricultural sector. It has provided increased productivity in the sector, through technological innovation, intensive land use and the use of chemical inputs. However, there was a change in Brazilian rural reality: socioeconomic and environmental effects came to be perceived. Several indicators were created to measure the social, economic and environmental impacts of economic activities. Although, for the primary sector, few index were developed to know the local reality and to think about the sustainability of the primary activity. Furthermore, sustainable development is increasingly gaining ground on the countries’ political Agenda. Thus, this research aimed to create an indicator of socioeconomic and environmental development for the southern half of Rio Grande do Sul, Pampa Biome, in order to present the local reality, The result has showed that there are weaknesses in the three dimensions analyzed: environmental, social and economic. Nevertheless, in the last two dimensions, the deficiency is greater. The analysis provides important data that can serve as the basis for public and/or private policy studies for the Pampa Biome. |
