Resumo: |
This paper aims to analyze the Devil and its representation in the novels The gospel according to Jesus Christ, by José Saramago, and Blank Gaze, by José Luís Peixoto, and, thus, profile the Dark Lord according to the view of the Portuguese literature. In order to do so some considerations are presented about the concept of the Devil‘s image in the western culture. The paper also discusses the relationship between Satan‘s image created by religion and the one developed in literature, focusing mainly in the Portuguese novels. Through comparison of the devilish characters of each narrative, it is performed an analysis of the character ―devil‖ and Shepherd and their relation with man, God and the narrative itself, for the Devil is, more than ever, the Father of Lies. |
