Resumo: |
This thesis analyzes the Anglo-American tradition of courtship novels focusing on three works from different periods : Pride and Prejudice, by Jane Austen, Jane Eyre, by Charlotte Brontë, and The House of Mirth, by Edith Wharton. After going through this recapitulation of the novelistic tradition involving the passage from adolescence to adulthood in the life of a woman, there is a comparative study of those novels and Marriage Plot, by Jeffrey Eugenides. This novel is seen as a modern parody, following Linda Hutcheon‘s Theory of Parody. |
