Resumo: This dissertation presents the results of a survey whose data were obtained from an extra-class activity, developed and implemented by its author using modeling as a method of teaching with a group of 15 students in the 6th grade of elementary school, who participated as volunteers. The objective of this research was to analyze the motivation of students to learn geometry content from the packages construction activity. The research was qualitative and treated a case study, whose data collection instruments used were the evaluations, the field diary and two interviews. The methodological approach was organized in three stages: theoretical map, field map and map analysis. On the theoretical map were presented theories about mathematical modeling in education and motivation in school. In the field map occurred the development and implementation of the project and in the map-analysis was constituted of the analysis of data obtained in the field map, based on the theories of the theoretical map. The data were collected, organized and analyzed by the author. The analysis allowed the author to conclude that the extracurricular activity developed favored learning the content of geometry, just as allowed that were identified moments of motivation and demotivation of students during its implementation.
