Resumo: This thesis aims to understand how notions of risk are used by obstetricians to endorse the practice of abortion on risk of mother's life. We argue that the impossibility of mathematical precision of the assessment and calculation of risk during pregnancy, subjective aspects such as moral and religious beliefs, cultural values and life experiences come into play in formulating the notion of risk. To this end, we analyze the arguments made present in medical discourse to construct the notion of risk and concepts associated with the diagnosis of miscarriage risk. The theoretical path traveled is based on the Foucauldian notion of biopolitics to articulate an understanding of abortion as an object of government control and the language of risk as a strategy for achieve this control. As a methodological procedure, we adopt the perspective of the subject field to guide the use of interviews and conversations, based on the approach of discursive practices, which guided the completion of five semi-structured interviews with doctors in the legal abortion of São Paulo. The analysis of interviews has focused on the arguments presented by doctors who perform abortions on pregnant woman's risk of life, about how risk is conceived in pregnancies where abortion is a possibility to keep or save the life or health of pregnant women. To go from the theoretical discussion to the achievement of the empirical analysis we follow the following route: first we present the theoretical contributions that underlie political rationality based on the biology of conception and abortion bodies as objects of government control, then seek the arrest of concept of risk in the field of Health and Obstetric Clinic, the next step was to make a description of methodological procedures undertaken to organize the information to be analyzed and interpreted from the Argumentative Approach and finally present an analysis of the argumentative construction of risk during pregnancy and risk of abortion for pregnant woman's life. The identification and description of the elements that constitute the organization of argumentative medical discourse noted that: the concept of risk indicates the relationship between individual and collective phenomena, expressed in mathematical language of probability, risk analysis is determined by personal and professional biographies of each medical, emotional disorders and mental suffering resulting from a pregnancy with a diagnosis of risk is in risk factors for pregnant women, the definition and assessment of risk during pregnancy are determined by the exercise of disciplinary doctor, the doctor's moral belief about the legality of abortion is not always consistent with his clinical practice and this is determined by its positioning to the morality of abortion, personal experience, related to the experience of someone close to abortion on medical or professional related to the daily lives of services that provide contact with women who want abortions, bring the doctors to the understanding of abortion as a pregnant woman's autonomous choice
