Resumo: This study explores historical and documentary perspectives on the relationship between Catholicism and education in Brazil since the Second Vatican Council (1962-1965) until the first decade of the 21st century. Starting with the hypothesis that, during this period, Catholic social spaces shifted their focus to the media and less attention to schooling. The aim is to explore Catholic discourse and practice since 1960 in relation to education and the media. Political History, in a new configuration defended by Renè Remond, offers support to embrace the thesis that the development and socialization of technologies used for communication (radio and television) and the dynamics of relations between Church and State, provoke an instructional turn, expression coined by David Hamilton to argue about the shift in emphasis from learning to instruction in the early days of modern schooling. Raymond Williams' lexical exercise in Keywords is applied to the analysis of documents and studies that address words such as education, culture and media in the period, as well as categories used by Antonio Gramsci to study the Catholic Church, press and intellectuals. Ecclesiastical literature on the topics of education and media (CNBB, CELAM and Santa Sé) and the population (IBGE), educational (INEP) and Catholic education (CERIS) censuses carried out in the period were analyzed. The study shows strategies for upgrading the Catholic Church, coordinating internally, with private groups and with the State with the intention of initiating new processes and expanding its social space
