Resumo: This research gathers references towards an inquiry concerning the image in the realms of art and anthropology. It responds to the work of Hans Belting. It begins by questioning the idea of artwork. Philosophical rationalism provides the conceptual framework behind this idea. Consequences of the evolution of the concept of artwork after the avant-garde are to be evaluated. Ideas from Arthur C. Danto and Hal Foster tackle the autonomy of aesthetic experience. The works of Andy Warhol and Ai Weiwei unfold the situationist détournement (deviance) procedure. Contemporary artists make the case for an ethnographic turn within the artworld. Modern art reacted to the advance of capitalism and the upcoming of the urban environment. Artist Silvia M creates a system of exchanges with the environment and the others equivalent to the system of gifts as discovered by sociologist Marcel Mauss. Her work is to be considered according to the ideas from Mauss, Gell, Augé and the art critic Nicolas Bourriaud. Further analysis on the image problem according to Hans Belting and Marie-José Mondzain plus the work of deviance artists reveals the war of images situation
