Resumo: |
Phrases are everywhere: not only on paper or on canvases, but also in cities on poles, walls, signs and on the ground; in clothing, in t-shirts and bracelets; in books, movies, museums, lectures, on Instagram and in the signature of brands. Some are for reading and reflecting, others for keeping, decorating or serving as a motto. And some serve as anchors in difficult times of crisis. The main objective of the present study, of a semiotic nature, was to analyze the construction of meaning of the sentences inscribed by means of tattoos on the body. For this, images of tattoos were collected in the period from 2020 to 2024 in Brazil, a period in which the tattoo market grew, as well as the number of posts on Instagram gained greater visibility, showing us the relevance of this social phenomenon in the twenty-first century, in which the imagery component gains repercussion in the various fields of communication and culture. For this analysis, the theorists of discursive or structural semiotics, its creator Greimas, the developments of identity and visibility formulated by Landowski, as well as the syncretism of languages with the contributions of Floch and Oliveira were used for the analysis and interpretation of the inscriptions of sentences with a given typology, body of letters, chromaticism and dynamics in interaction in the topology of the body. The verbal cut brought a differential point. At the same time that the tattoos are there to be seen, the choice of the verbal text rescues the mode of individual expression (even if the texts are from others) that the subject assumes. From this semiotic analysis of the utterances and their themes, figurativity, location and topological distribution in the arrangements of expression in terms of plasticity, rhythm and aesthesia and also of the meanings that the sentences sediment in the one who looks, feels and interacts with the tattooed body, we reach the following conclusions: a) the written verbal tattoos are loaded with personal values, beliefs and life experiences and serve as statements of identity; b) the choices of statements are influenced by cultural and social factors, including media trends, public figures and social movements and; c) the location of the tattoo in the topography of the body plays a crucial role in its meanings. |
