Resumo: Education, present at every moment throughout life, is also contemplated in the health field; and relevant to those involved as the reality appears more significant. In this sense, continuing education emerges as a strategy to promote the development of relations between work and education having as co-author the nurse, active participant who must provide to the nursing staff the means for reflection and transformation of reality, as well as the development of autonomy. It is understood that there are some processes included into the nursing work such as care, managing, researching and teaching, which instigate the adoption of a new collective approach based on reciprocity; and see the obstacles as opportunities for improvement. The study aimed to characterize the nursing team educational activities performed by clinical nurses; to highlight the perception of these nurses about the educational activities that they carry out and; to determine how they evaluate the preparation offered by the undergraduate course in Nursing to conduct educational activities. This research presents a descriptive, exploratory, quantitative and qualitative profile with emphasis on the meanings, experiences and needs identified by the participants, and it took place at a university hospital located in a municipality in the state of São Paulo. The study included 19 clinical nurses who answered a self-administered questionnaire. The participants socio-demographic data and those relating to educational actions they held were organized in tables and analyzed according to the frequency of their variables. The content of the responses regarding the perception of the educational activities and the preparation to carry out educational activities were organized according to the Discourse of the Collective Subject and analyzed by the method of analysis of content, thematic analysis mode. The results showed that all participants carry out educational activities of the nursing team; the most widely used strategy is the individual guidance on duty, on the verbal form, without the support of audiovisual resources; there is a predominance of the guidelines related to everyday situations, followed by the presentation of related rules and routines featuring specific actions, without collective problematizing. The time factor was the biggest difficulty pointed out due to work overload and reduced headcount. The experience of the team, their skills and participation were considered facilitators of the educational actions. The suggestion to carry out the educational activities in an adequate space and outside working hours was recurrent. Respondents were divided between participatory and traditional strategies as the best way to carry out educational activities, with a subtle predominance of the former. The structure and the strategic actions were the main requirements to concretize them. Dissatisfaction with the preparation offered by the graduate to carry out the educational activities was predominant. The conclusion was that the traditional and technical model of education is still prevalent in the educational activities of the nursing team; that such actions lack of effective design, with creative and innovative teaching, appropriate resources and support from the managers. It is also urgent that the training and specialization courses ensure experiences of the problematizing ways of teaching, given the great responsibility of nurses in determining the success of health education reconstruction in their practice
