This master’s dissertation regards the narratives about Douglas Martins Rodrigues, killed in October 27th 2013 by a military policeman in the Northern Zone of São Paulo. We compare the memory constructed by his family, the tributes and the social manifestations with the telejournalistic narrative, currently considered the biggest source for information in Brazil. We conducted interviews with the people involved in the case and its repercussion, as well as content and framing analysis of its coverage by the main newscasts of Rede Globo. We think the labours of memory and forgetfulness and the articulation of representations of violence with public security problems that affect mainly young black men from the outskirts of the country
