Resumo: This research aims to analyze the implementation of multi-age groupings in a municipal school in São Paulo, focusing on early childhood education, especially for children aged 4 to 5. To this end, an analysis of the guiding documents used by the São Paulo City Hall was carried out, as well as a field study with the teachers of a municipal early childhood education school (Emei) located on the east side of São Paulo. This study aims to identify the concept of multi-age groupings, understand the elements that supported this implementation, as well as investigate its effectiveness within the unit that was the locus of the research, taking as a criterion for analysis the teaching assumptions on the subject in order to understand how teachers have reorganized themselves for this service in order to enhance the development of children in early childhood education, understanding interactions as an essential component for this process
