Resumo: It was created in 2003 the National Humanization Policy to implement the SUS principles in the routine of health services and produce changes in management and the care process. For this purpose, it was outlined as guidelines the user embracement, ambiance, expanded clinic, management and co-management, valuing work and the worker, and defending the user's rights. This study aimed to define how nursing professionals receive users in the Basic Health Unit, highlight the potential and difficulties in interacting with users and discuss solutions to strengthen dialogic reception. That is exploratory, descriptive research with a qualitative approach with 12 nursing professionals from two Basic Health Units, required by law in an interior city in the state of São Paulo. Data collection consisted of an audio-recorded oral interview and application of a sociodemographic form. After that, a pedagogical workshop to discuss strengthening user embracement in the surveyed units. It used content and thematic analysis to analyze and interpret the results. It grouped the testimonials into four thematic categories: perception about the embracement, reception practices, potential, difficulties in reception. It considered facilitating reception by the interviewees' good interaction between nurses and users, an ethical approach, accessibility by the nurse, private and immediate care provided to users. The absence of a doctor, frustration with the SUS, team exhaustion, excessive demand, delays in care, different approaches are among the difficulties mentioned. Among the strengthening proposals discussed in the pedagogical workshop, the realization of a meticulous reception, a reorganization of flows and provision of services, training of professionals, sufficient human resources, and objective protocols stood out. The perceptions, questions, and proposals that emerged in this study can contribute to work relationships in the necessity of consolidated guidelines that support the spontaneous demand acceptance in the Basic Health Unit
