Resumo: The main objective of this research is to investigate the circulation of the concept of school failure in the Brazilian and Argentinian press (1999-2019). The investigation will be based on existing studies analyzing how the notion of school failure has been understood over 20 years. Today, the expression is still commonly used to symbolize serious educational predicaments. The bibliography has focused not only on the origin of the term, but on its different configurations and permanences. Patto (1996) and Charlot (2006) were the main references, in addition to school failure research by other scholars. To explore the role of journalism and education journalism, we used Traquina (2002), Sodré (2009), Luca (2006), Ratier (2005), among others. To analyze how the term school failure has been addressed by the press, we investigate how more than 160 journalistic publications contemplated the theme, the main correlations between them, the authors behind these texts, the sources used by the journalists, and if there was any problematization around the concept of school failure. The research examines the content published by four newspapers with massive circulation in their respective countries: in Brazil, Folha de S.Paulo and O Globo; and in Argentina, Clarín and La Nación
