Resumo: In a recent past, the organizations were not prepared, or were no able to accomplish a better distribution of income, neither have conditions to promote sustainable development. Today they have the great challenge to seek social justice and general planetary well-being. The neo-liberal development model is in crises, and there is a social concern regarding new ways to make business that may lead to new cycles of development where not only economics is relevant but also social and environmental responsibility become essential as in the case of the so call triple bottom line. Since the beginnings of last century entrepreneurship attracted the attention of academic research mostly on the area of Business Administration. Entrepreneurs are recognized as responsible for very small to large organizations, and hence for local to regional to national and even global development, in particular because its innovating potential. The purpose of this work is to study behavior characteristics of entrepreneurs as well as its special ability to start and implement new business models. Our approach to this area goes through an analysis on literature concerning ideas and concepts on entrepreneurship and social development; and then seek for experiences, in particular on the social area, that also may be helping to develop an entrepreneurship culture in Brazil Data come from different sources like GEM and SEBRAE recent reports and help to study projects and programs, like the ones of Ashoka, Artemisia , and The Secretary of Work and Social Entrepreneurship of Ceara. We also consider the Social Entrepreneurship Prize. Entrepreneurship in Brazil is going well and growing fast, thanks in particular to programs like the ones of SEBRAE for the development of new business, and no doubt the potential for creating and starting new business by entrepreneurs may be extremely important for sustainable local development, particularly when they are supported and oriented by programs that may promote social and environmental responsibility, and this may be a key for the future development of our country
