Resumo: The main objective of this dissertation is to present and analyze the evolution of formal job in the Jequitinhonha mesoregion (MG), during the period of 2000 to 2010 in order to comprehend any changes in its productive structure. The procedures used consisted in bibliographic research and by analyzing the data of the Annual Report of Social Information (RAIS). To comprehend and deepening this study it was needed to briefly present the theories of the regional economic development, and understand the behavior of the Brazilian job market and also the regional economic reality of the Minas Gerais state during the period of 2000 to 2010. During the period studied there was a quantitative increase in the formal job in the Jequitinhonha mesoregion, but considering a qualitative perspective, which analyzes the diversification of the productive activity of the region, it was noticed that the increasing of the formal job happened in a concentrated way in a few economic sectors of the region which focused in low incomes, and hence there was not changes in the regional prevailing productive structure which characterize its low development condition
