The aim of this research is to contribute towards the study of the major changes occurring in the international system since the twentieth century, specifically from the 70s on. The central question is: Is the United States of America living a "terminal crisis"? This question is not examined directly, but by means of a comparative analysis of two important lines of approach in International Relations: the world-system and the developmentalist.
