Resumo: |
This study investigates the significance of Catholic liturgical garments and their role in the construction of religious identity. By analyzing empirical sales data and reviewing literature on the history of clothing, fashion, and the Second Vatican Council, it seeks to understand how different clothing choices relate to various styles of thought and life choices. The research explores the hypothesis that liturgical garments, beyond their practical function, are powerful symbols that communicate values, beliefs, religious identities, and ways of thinking. By examining the historical evolution of sacred garments and the transformations that occurred after the Second Vatican Council, the study demonstrates how fashion, as a cultural expression, shapes and is shaped by different spheres of human life, including the religious one. The research concludes that liturgical garments can be a field of contention between conservative and renewing forces within the Catholic Church and that the choices of types of garments reflect a particular vision of the Church, its values, and practices. This study highlights the importance of religious materiality in constructing identity and transmitting values. The choices of garments reveal the complex relationships between the individual, the community, and tradition, contributing to the understanding of contemporary religious experience |
