This paper aims to discuss the musical journey of Mário Andrade. Starting from the years of his musical education to the last moments of his life, the research seeks to question some historical and cultural aspects of the context in which the protagonist was included. The concerns about the aesthetic musical debate sensitized the author, who produced an endless historical documentation, which can be found among these documents: letters, newspaper articles, magazines, essays and research. Thus, the main purpose of this paper is questioning and discussing polemics in which Mário de Andrade became involved, benefiting the confusions marking his literary-musical work. Divided into three chapters, the dissertation intends to contemplate specific characteristics of the cultural journey of Mário de Andrade, exploring the aesthetic discussions regarding music and questioning the efforts for the creation of a national music, having popular cultures as central matter. The research‟s preparation follows the invoked possibilities provided by documental data. The several epistolary written by Mario de Andrade made it possible to trace temporalities and places, confidences, professional strategies and the constitution of interlocutors‟ network. In the other hand, the production regarding music made it possible to question the cultural and historiographic aspects of that fortuity. By investigating Mário de Andrade‟s journey, it is possible to verify a restless historical figure, who is sensitive and aimed at contributing to a more equitable world using art |
