Resumo: |
This study analyzes the relationship between Brazilian funk music and the outskirts of the cities, acknowledging it as a cultural expression which portraits the everyday lives of the young people who live in those areas. For this purpose, the study contextualizes the emergence of the urban outskirts as a consequence of the Brazilian slavery system, the resulting neoliberal policies that perpetuate social and racial inequalities in Brazil, and the prejudice against popular culture. Moreover, it questions what it means to be black and young on the urban outskirts and the relationship between the young African-Brazilian people and funk music as a possible form of resistance. Thus, this study aims to contribute to reflexion, as well as to the strengthening of the Social Service’s activities, for they are closely connected to those issues |
