Resumo: | This research aims at comprehending the language structure of construction billboard signs and the way the public administration of a city uses that kind of publicity as a means of political and persuasive communication, in order to obtain a favorable behavior to the party and the politician who is in the mayor position. In this particular case, the study was performed with Porto Alegre City Hall and, more specifically, referring to the Socio-environmental Integrated Project (SEIP) construction billboard signs, the most invested program of the current city management. Through an exploratory, qualitative research, we analyzed a corpus composed by three SEIP construction billboard signs. Comparing them to the Manual of Billboard Signs Confection, made by Porto Alegre City Hall, we tried to interpret the visual typologies found in advertisements, based on Georges Pèninou‟s studies (1976), and also the language structure of the messages, from the proposal of Discourse Analysis developed by Patrick Charaudeau (2008). Those two stages of analysis will allow us to identify whether or not there is an advertising and persuasive function in billboard signs. |
