This thesis unfolds the aspects of the construction of Porto Alegre city´s imaginary within the contents of the film Sal de Prata, directed by the Rio Grande do Sul´s filmmaker, Carlos Gerbase, in 2005. From the possible paths given by Comprehensive Sociology, interconnected with Michel Maffesoli and Massimo Canevacci´s thoughts, we understand that the notions of imaginary can be related with the concept of communicational metropolis. Through images and other codes presented by the film Sal de Prata, the path is structured, identifying different enviroments and situations that lead to the city´s imaginary. Registrations about geography, habits adopted by the population and the city´s infrastructure are relevants at the film narrative, since they reveal characteristics of Porto Alegre city – elementary substracts for the development of this research.
