Resumo: |
In 1914 was inaugurated the Itupararanga dam to to meet the energy demand of the state of S??o Paulo, and later to meet the energy needs of the Votorantim group. Subsequently, it also began to meet other multiple use demands including the water supply of the cities of the region, such as Alum??nio, Cotia, Ibi??na, Mairinque, Piedade, S??o Roque, Votorantim, Vargem Grande Paulista and Sorocaba. The objective of the present study is to analyze the social and environmental conflicts of use and occupation of the soil around the dam and its impacts on the water supply for the local population. These conflicts occur due to population growth without a proper planning of land use, resulting in the occupation of environmentally fragile areas, the disposal of untreated sewage in the region's watercourses, and agricultural activity with inadequate practices causing water pollution by agricultural pesticides, erosion and silting of rivers. The analysis of these conflicts allowed the elaboration of a set of proposals that could subsidize public policies aimed at mitigating the effects of these conflicts on the population and prevent similar strikes from occurring in the future. The conduction of the research, which had an exploratory character, involved a bibliographic review, documentary survey and obtaining testimonies from local social actors. |
