Resumo: |
The present research aimed to: identify and analyze the relationships between pleasure and suffering, hopelessness and suicidal ideation in nursing workers. The study involved the participation of 297 nursing professionals from different areas of activity in a hospital in São Paulo (in loco), and also nationwide through online forms. It was hypothesized that the suffering experienced by these workers had an influence on the psychic illness and that it even made it possible, in the motivation for the idealization of suicide. Studies on pleasure, suffering, well-being, mental illness, suicide and the Psychodynamics of Work provided theoretical foundations for the development of analyses. Data collection took place between April and August 2021, using as instruments: a Sociodemographic Questionnaire, the Scales of Pleasure and Suffering Indicators at Work (EIPST), Hopelessness Scale (BHS) and Beck's Suicidal Ideation Scale (BSI). Participants who worked in any professional category of Nursing were sought, as long as they worked in a hospital environment, providing direct or indirect care to patients. To analyze the data obtained, Pearson's correlation coefficient and Spearman's correlation coefficient were used. In the evaluation of the differences between the percentages of the groups, the Fisher's exact test was used and, for the multivariate analysis of the instrument classifications, the Ordinal Logistic Regression Analysis. Statistical analyzes were performed considering a significance level of 0.05, which is equivalent to a 95% confidence for the analysis. Among the results, pride in providing help to the patient (86.5%) and solidarity among the members of the work team (47.6%) were identified as indicators of pleasure at work. The suffering indicators found referred to tiredness (58.8%), overload (55.7%), emotional tension (52.1%), pressure exerted in the work environment (40.2%), fear of punishment for making mistakes (39.6%) and professional devaluation (32.7%). It was also possible to identify the sum of the levels of mild, moderate and severe hopelessness in (25.2%) of the participants, percentages of suicidal ideation (23.2%) and suicide attempts (8.1%) among these workers. Correlation analyzes allowed us to identify that as the worker expresses greater levels of freedom and fulfillment, the levels of hopelessness and suicidal ideation decrease. Conversely, higher levels of burnout and devaluation contributed to higher rates of hopelessness and self-destructive thinking. It is concluded that the suffering in the work of Nursing professionals has a close relationship with the illness and the suicidal intention of these workers.(AU) |
