Resumo: This work compares the performance between the Standard fiber and the NZD-Normal fiber, both used together with directly modulated lasers. The purpose is to analyse an alternative to substitute the use of the Standard fiber in transparent metropolitan networks, to use the Standard fiber it is necessary to use some chromatic dispersion schemes, what makes the design very complex since it is difficult to compensate any specific route between two nodes using this technology. As an alternative to simplify this complex implementation of the transparent metropolitan networks using the Standard fiber, this work analyses the use of the NZD-Normal fiber. This fiber is optimized for the transparent metropolitan networks since it can, together with directly modulated lasers, achieve distances of about 300km without penalizing the system by chromatic dispersion. This is the result of the interaction between the pre-chirp that the modulated laser imposes to the optical pulse and the normal regime of propagation of the NZD-Normal, as can be observed along this work.
