Resumo: ABSTRACT: Product codes formed by serial concatenation of single parity check component codes are used in this thesis to fulfill the requirements of coding rate and block length expressed by the standard known as DVB-RCT (Digital Video Broadcasting - Return Channel Terrestrial). This standard describes the parameters of the physical layer for a digital TV wireless return channel that is compatible with DVB-T. Simulation results for bit error ratio are given for channels affected by additive white Gaussian Noise and by the effects of Rayleigh flat fading. Although the performance achieved is inferior to the Turbe code originally defined in the DVB-RCT standard, the class of product codes suggested herein has the advantage of requiring low complexity at the decoding side. The subject of interactivity in terrestrial broadcast systems is particularly controversial, principally because so far there seem to be no systems of this kind under commercial operation. On the other hand, there has been a growth on the utilization of interactive digital platforms in cable and satellite systems. This work seeks to provide some contribution in the search for a digital TV system that is suitable for the Brazilian scenario.
