Resumo: In the historical context of the labor market, there are major changes in the relationship between employer and employee, with regard to professional ethics, rights and duties. Individuals who run away from a socially constituted “standard”, in this case, transgender people are discriminated and marginalized, often with low family psychological support, little access to education and, when adults, with difficulties in entering the formal labor market. The aim of the present study was to understand the insertion and professional experience of transgender people in the job market. This is a descriptive, cross-sectional study with a qualitative design, from a phenomenological perspective. Male and female transsexual people living in the northwest region of São Paulo were collaborators. The interviews were conducted through a dialogue guided by the following question: “tell me about your insertion and experience in the job market”. Employees were recruited using the snowball or “snowball” method, a sample that uses a chain of references. The interviews were recorded, transcribed in full, and analyzed, beginning the understanding and interpretation of the phenomenon being investigated. From the employees' reports, 5 categories emerged: Transition; Passability; Experiences in the labor market; Prejudice and Society. They revealed that the experiences and experiences in the labor market showed their difficulties, prejudices, unpreparedness of companies when receiving transsexuals, mainly in relation to treatment, social name and ignorance of laws, which ensure the rights of transsexuals. It also highlights the differences found between transsexual men and women and the passability factor, which is essential for the experience of insertion in the labor market to be effective.
