Resumo: This dissertation resulted from some reflections on Art-Education, and its purpose is to try the offer some contribution to the discussion on the questions in this practice. An historical approach is presented in order to enlighten the possible alternatives for the solution of the problems that permeate the present moment. This work is based on the thought that art is a language like talking and writing, and as such must be considered with its specificities in the school context. As a free creative language the material of art is the life of the human being; his thinking, his emotions, his imagination and symbolical capacity that reveal themselves through the physical ways avaiable that the arte-educator will adapt to his practice. This way some methodological problems are discussed in objective situations, specially in relation to the public education. There's also an effort to show that being sensitive to the infinite universe of the artistic creation is a basic condition in the formation of the art-educator so that he mey contribute to the democratization of the expressive and creative practice in the educational environment.
