Resumo: Acidic monomers have the potential to chemically bond to dental substrates, however, due to the low pH, their concentration may compromise the chemical stability and adhesive performance. This study aims to evaluate the influence of different concentrations of MDP (10-methacryloiloxydecyl dihydrogenphosphate) in experimental adhesives shear bond strength to dentin. Eighty sound human molars crowns were included in PVC cylinders with self-cured acrylic resin (n = 12). Six experimental adhesives were prepared with the addition of different concentrations of MDP (0%, 3%, 6%, 9%, 12% and 15%, by weight). Three commercially available adhesives were evaluated: Single Bond Universal (3M ESPE), Single Bond 2 (3M ESPE) and Ambar (FGM). Transparent cylindrical moulds were placed on the hybridized dentin filled with composite resin (Z350 XT, shade A3E) and photoactivated. The specimens were stored in distilled water at 37o C for either 24 h or for 6 months, and submitted microshear bond strength tests. The data were statistically analyzed by two-way ANOVA and Tukey’s test (α = 5%). The results of bond strength, after 24 hours and six months, indicated statistically significant differences for the groups evaluated. Among the experimental adhesives, MDP 9% (18,94 MPa)a and 12% (15,20 MPa)ab had higher bond strength. Adhesives with MDP 6% (5,34 MPa)e and MDP 3% (13,85 MPa)abcde presented the lower bond strength values. Regarding the storage time, the bond strength values were higher for 24 h (12.95 MPa)a in relation to 6 months (10.96 MPa)b . A weak positive correlation was observed between the percentage of MDP and the bond strength for the experimental adhesives. It can be concluded that the concentration of MDP influenced the bond strength of the experimental adhesive systems tested. Considering the experimental adhesives, the 3% MDP formulation obtained the best results for degradation of bond strength overtime.
