Resumo: The objective of this research is to analyze how the ambidexterity degree is related to the performance of organizations. As theoretical foundations, two constructs were used. The first, Organizational Ambidexterity, was based on the arguments proposed by March (1991) and O'Reilly and Tushman (2004) on how organizations can orchestrate radical and incremental innovation actions (exploration and exploitation actions) in order to competitive advantage. The second construct deals with Business Strategy and was based on the models of analysis of Michael Eugene Porter (PORTER, 1980, 1985, 1996), focusing on the external environment of the sector; and the Resource Based View – VBR (WERNERFELT, 1984; BARNEY, 1991; TEECE et al., 1997; BARNEY and HESTERLY, 2012), that rely on tangible and intangible resources (focus on the firm's internal environment). Both theoretical currents aim to improve the performance of the company. The methodology used is based on quantitative and descriptive research using the survey method, based on closed questionnaires received from 667 bank branches belonging to the financial institution studied, mixed economy bank and with units in all states of the federation. Descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, ANOVA and cluster analyzes were used for data analysis. The justification of the work is due to the novelty of the constructs researched in the service industry (financial) in Brazil, according to the search in scientific databases. The hypotheses proposed in the present dissertation (ambidexterity predicts the performance; time of company and the time of performance of the manager predict the degree of ambidexterity and degree of instruction of the manager influences positively in the degree of ambidexterity), were not confirmed. However, it was possible, through the replica of the model proposed in a previous research on the existence of a level of maturity in the degree of ambidexterity (Level I - Embryonic, Level II - Structured, Level III - Semi-developed and Level IV – developed), that the Organizational Learning is potentialized in the units with greater degree of ambidexterity.
