Resumo: This work presents research data that took as an object of study the vocactional qualification process based on competences developed in a technical teaching institution in São Paulo and had as main objective to investigate the consequences of this qualification in the professional development of those who had their knowledge recognized and passed to be formally entitled to exercise a profession through this qualification. For the development of the research, the qualitative approach was chosen and the data were collected through literature review and analysis of official documents and the proposal of a structured questionnaire to professionals who won the right to practice the profession through the process of certification of competences in the period between 2015 and 2019. As a theoretical and methodological reference, we turn to authors who have been dedicating themselves to life history as a research and training instrument with emphasis on Furlanetto (2007), Josso (2004) and Tardif (2019) and authors who discuss professional qualification, with emphasis on the studies of Alexim and Lopes (2003), Bertrand (2005), Lima and Cunha (2017), Moraes and Lopes Neto (2005), among others. The measured data indicated mostly positive developments in the personal, social and professional trajectories of the interviewees from the formalization of their knowledge, like to obtain better jobs and better knowledge from professional activity, playing an important role in the professional training of the participants. Thus, the certification of knowledge, skills and abilities acquired through the interviewees' experiences constituted a recognized and aggregating validation in the world of work.
