Resumo: | The objective of this study was to evaluate the changes in these skeletal, dental, and profile cephalometrics promoted by the Herbst, Forsus and PowerScope appliances after Class II treatment. Initial and final lateral cephalograms of 56 patients, of both genders, with Class II malocclusion (ANB greater than or equal to 4º or with an overjet of at least 3mm) were used for the longitudinal retrospective study, 22 patients being treated with the Herbst device, 20 patients treated with Forsus device and 14 patients treated with the PowerScope device. The average initial and final ages respectively, were 10,88 ± 1,69 years and 115,12 ± 2,71 years, for patients treated with Herbst, 11,94 ± 1,56 years and 14,82 ± 1,62 years for the Forsus treated group and 11,92 ± 1,49 years and 15,38 ± 1,60 years for the PowerScope treated group. Through lateral cephalograms, taken before and after completion of treatment, cephalometric analysis of soft and dentoskeletal tissues and evaluation of cervical vertebral maturation were performed. The data obtained were submitted to statistical analysis with a significance level of 5%. According to the results, it could be observed that the three devices were effective in correcting Class II. The PowerScope significantly increased mandibular incisor dilation and buccalization and consequently improved the overjet. There was no significant skeletal difference in the maxilla and mandible when compared to the three groups. The PowerScope group had a more anterior position of the lower lip. It could be concluded, treatment with PowerScope produced more evident dento-alveolar changes. |
