Resumo: | With the accelerated global process of growth in urban areas, cities are no longer just sp aces for opportunities and economic growth , but began to contribute effectively to environmental degradation and resource scarcity. We start from the assumption of sustainable territorial development (STD), consolidated by the reformulation of territorial identities supported by integration, shared management of resources in common use and political culture. Therefore, it is necessary to asses s the level of STD and its impact on the dynamics of integration between metropolitan municipalities, influencing the integrated management of metropolitan regions. Thus, the objective of this research was to build a method for evaluating sustainable terri torial development for metropolitan regions, having the Metropolitan Region of Curitiba as an empirical research field. The set of indicators was built from a theoretical basis, with selection that followed the criteria of choice mentioned in the literatur e and state of the art on indicators, considering the natural, social and built capitals as dimensions of sustainable development. After defining and describing the indicators considered relevant for the evaluation of STDs in metropolitan regions, we start ed to assess STDs and analyze the integration dynamics between the municipalities of the RMC from the perspective of the three capitals. The result of the indicators in each capital generated the creation of an index obtained by the arithmetic average of t he selected indicators. In the end, the sum of the indexes of each capital, divided by the number of capitals, formed the Sustainable Territorial Development Index IDTS3. The critical analysis of the integration dynamics between the metropolitan municipa lities, considered the approaches identified by the statistical method of grouping, in the perspective of integrated management. The results pointed out the RMC as a fragmented region, with high development inequality between municipalities, conditions tha t are in disagreement with the integration ideal recommended by the Statute of the Metropolis for an integrated metropolitan management. |
