Resumo: When they are inserted in dynamic environments, organizations are forced to meet a series of requirements imposed by the environment and also by its stakeholders, which are not always homogeneous given the multiplicity of these audiences. This thesis is defended by the existence of a phenomenon called organizational liminality, which is manifested as an intermediate space between two extremes - the discussion about legitimacy being used here, that is, the phenomenon of liminality would be between extremes legitimate and illegitimate in which organizations can frame (intentionally or by implication). This open space, characterized by constant debate and in which there is a certain degree of laxity, is defined as a space of ambiguity that allows an arena of debate, which can culminate in situations of tolerance or contestation, also intermediate between what is considered as legitimate and illegitimate. This liminality is characterized by artificiality / precariousness as well as tolerance, since in the space of ambiguity there is the possibility of legitimacy to be diluted at any moment, to be questioned or even put to the test. Thus, this paper argues for the aforementioned phenomenon and presents a theoretical proposition regarding possible theoretical gaps identified in the literature on organizational legitimacy.
