Resumo: | This study examines the relationship between the processes of globalization and its effects on organizational learning. To understand adequately the learning, the level of analysis chosen was the units within the organization. It was selected an industrial company in the medical - dental area and the research strategy was the case study. The methodology used was qualitative research, where data were collected through semi-structured interviews with managers of indoor units that are inter-related with the indoor unit of foreign trade, with its manager, and the oldest director of this organization that has witnessed all phases of internationalization of the company, analysis of documents and direct observation. It was identified based on the Uppsala school, the traditional phases of internationalization and an earlier phases of Uppsala, named here as “interest phase” in the internationalization process. The data revealed that the influence of internationalization was not in equality to all units within the organization, and different levels of organizational learning occurred in all of internationalization phases. It was also revealed that some internal units suffered no influence on its learning by the export activity. The organization’s commitment to internationalization occurred incrementally, involving the internal drives on the graduated scale, as was increasing the complexity of internationalization processes and expertise to the occurrence and compliance with company strategy. We checked also that the internationalization of the firm may occur autonomously, independent of the company, given the "imports" of visitors from foreign countries, increasing the degree of internationalization of the Uppsala school. |
