Resumo: |
This study examines how written discourse and the discursive practices employed by educational institutions are affected and dislocated as new technologies are used, taking into consideration how participants position themselves concerning language usage. Based on these assumptions, this work investigates the discursive relations between teacher and student(s) in the discursive practices that take place at educational institutions, focusing on email messages. The corpus analyzed in this study consisted of e-mail messages (dialogs) exchanged among the discourse participants – college teacher and students – from both distance learning and face-to-face courses offered by the same institution. Discourse Analysis was used to examine the corpus (Pecheux, 1969, 1975). The results indicate that the use of new communication technologies in the field of education has affected discursive practices in the area, leading to discussions and transformations. These transformations produce a sense of strangeness because the use of e-mails, as well as forums, chat-rooms and other technological tools, have allowed for a certain degree of ‘flexibility’ in language usage |
