The necessity for local and economic development is a reality in a great number of towns, and to develop projects, activities, to find means and instruments for such development is the part of whoever is responsible for the management. Such tools seek to help with economic, social and sustainable development, allowing for improvement in the quality of life, social, sustainable and, consequently, economic development. Thus, allowing and identifying the importance of public partnerships, entrepreneurs, governmental leaders, the third sector, assuring tools that aim at the town’s progress and the development of social issues. This thesis’ main objective is to “analyze the Program for Local Economic Development, within the scope of indicators for sustainable development in Rio Negrinho”. In order to attain the main objective, it sought to meet the following specific objectives: to present a program for implementation of economic and local development, to describe the outline of Rio Negrinho and to indicate matters of most vulnerability found in the town. In further analytical analyzes, a theoretical review was done, searching for numerous academic papers enabling the foundation to develop facilitators, instruments related to sustainable development, municipal development, sustainable cities, local development and economic progress. On data collection, 15 people with active roles on the economic development of Rio Negrinho were interviewed. The interviews were analyzed in coherence with the methodological precepts guiding the study. With scrutiny of the data collected, it was possible to comprehend the point of view of the people involved in their nuances, as well as some internal procedures in the introduction of the program for local economic development, DEL. At the end of the investigative trajectory, it was possible to infer that the local economic development is intertwined with social and sustainable matters in the town of Rio Negrinho, changing and providing quality of life to the residents and indicators for the decision making process, through projects and social awareness, technological development, estimulating sustainable development and promoting transparency of actions.
