Recuperação das áreas de preservação permanente: matas ciliares da nascente do Rio Pato Branco

In view of the growing concern about the conservation of natural resources, especially water, this paper presents an analysis of the situation of preservation and environmental recovery proposal in one of sources and the initial course of the River Pato Branco, which are located in the community Gramado São Joaquim within the Mariópolis municipality in the State Southwest of Paraná. The source and the of river initial course are within a property establishing beef cattle, the cattle have unrestricted access to the source and to river. Although the area is under grass, which should hinder the erosion process, the own access paths the water body end up concentrating the flow of water into the same, causing erosion and siltation. Surrounding the source and also the water course there is some tree species, which are concentrated in only part of the area that should be preserved. The recommended measures for preservation and restoration of riparian forest, were building fences to prevent cattle access, facilitating the natural restoration of vegetation; planting of native species in places where the situation is more critical and awareness of farmers, so that they help in the maintenance necessary for project efficiency.
