Summary: The increases in the production of broilers contribute to reducing the intervals between batches, contributing to the increase of insect pests. The insect which excels in poultry production is the mealworm, Alphitobius diaperinus Panzer (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae). The control of A. diaperinus usually is made of synthetic chemicals which can contaminate the environment and leave residues in carcasses of animals. Therefore, it is necessary to search for alternative control methods such as the use of vegetable powders, that aren’t toxic to the environment, animals and humans. In this sense, the objective of this study was to evaluate the bioactivity of plant powders on larvae and adults of A.diaperinus in laboratory conditions. The plants used for the production of vegetable powders were rue Ruta graveolens (L.) (Rutaceae), brazilian cherry Eugenia uniflora (L.) (Myrtaceae), mint Mentha spicata (L.) (Lamiaceae) and orange Citrus sinensis (L.) (Rutaceae), at a concentration of 20%. The powders (20g) were added and mixed to 80 g of chickens feed sterilized. The mixture was divided into five parts and added in Petri plates (replicates), being allocated 20 adults or 20 larvae A. diaperinus in each repetition. The plates were placed in a climatic temperature chamber (27 ± 2°C, 14 hour photoperiod). The evaluation was performed daily for 10 days, quantifying the number of dead individuals. It has been found that the vegetable powder brazilan cherry caused insecticidal effect on adults and larvae of A. diaperinus with a percentage cumulative mortality of, respectively, 70% and 63.73%. The vegetable powder of Orange occurred mortality only on insects adults, 63.63%. The mortality caused by vegetable powders R. graveolens and M. spicata did not differ significantly from the control, for both adults and larvae. The assessment between times, to larvae, the highest percentages of mortality was observed when the employe vegetable powders mint and rue in time of 168-192 hours, differing significantly from the other times. As for adult mortality caused by the dust Orange and cherry uniform out in time 72 hours to 240 hours. Vegetable powders Brazilian cherry and Orange had an insecticidal activity against A. diaperinus, requiring further studies to determine the lethal concentrations and the association with other forms of control
