A maioria dos estudos que avaliam a relação entre maloclusões e mastigação não são conclusivos em termos de identificação das influências dos diferentes tipos de maloclusão no desempenho mastigatório. O presente estudo avaliou a performance mastigatória em indivíduos sem sintomas de DTM, que apresentavam arranjo dental Classe I e Classe II de Angle. A amostra foi composta por 52 indivíduos adultos, sendo 26 indivíduos que apresentavam Classe I (considerado grupo controle) e 26 indivíduos que apresentavam Classe II de Angle (grupo experimental). Os voluntários foram submetidos ao teste de performance mastigatória com uma biocápsula contendo corante de fucsina, denomidada Me Mastig®. Durante os testes, ao voluntário foi solicitado mastigar a cápsula durante 20 segundos, em três tomadas. Após essa etapa, a cápsula foi aberta e foi mensurada no espectofotômetro a absorbância do corante fucsina em 5ml de água destilada. O resultado encontrado não mostra diferença estatisticamente significante entre os dois grupos, porém no grupo do gênero masculino foi encontrada uma diferença significante clinicamente, onde o grupo controle apresentou melhor performance mastigatória que o grupo experimental. Neste estudo observamos que a maloclusão de Classe II tende a não influenciar negativamente a performance mastigatória. Palavras-chave: Mastigação. Maloclusão. Classe I. Classe II. Several factors influence the masticatory performance and the malocclusion factor can affect the individual 's ability to process and grind food. Most studies evaluating the relationship between malocclusions and chewing are inconclusive in terms of identifying the influences of different types of malocclusion on masticatory performance. This study evaluated the masticatory performance in individuals without symptoms of TMD, which showed dental arrangement Class I and Class II malocclusion. The sample consisted of 52 adult subjects, 26 with Class I (as the control group) and 26 with Class II malocclusion (experimental group). The volunteers were subjected to masticatory performance test with a bio capsule containing dye fucsina, named Me Mastig ®. During testing, the subject was asked to chew the capsule for 20 seconds, in three takes. After this step, the capsule was opened and was gauged on a spectrophotometer the absorbance of fucsina dye in 5 ml of distilled water. The result found doesn't shows any statistically significant difference between the two groups, but in male's gender group a significant difference was found clinically, where the control group had showed a better masticatory performance than the experimental group. This study showed that the Class II malocclusion tends to not adversely affect the masticatory performance. Keywords: Mastication. Malocclusion. Class I.
