Summary: This article presents a modified version of the SERVQUAL model to measure student satisfaction at the Higher Institute of Sciences and Distance Education in Mozambique. The SERVQUAL model consists of the use of questions related to services to distance education students. These questions were organized using the SERVQUAL questionnaire in two phases to determine the difference between their expectations and perceptions. Results obtained from 348 students' responses show the usefulness of this tool to obtain the students' perception synthetically and reduced format that can be used by the members of the administration to make decisions. The Empathy dimension came closest to the students' expectations, while the Response Capacity dimension had the worst assessment. On the other hand, the SERVQUAL model can be a useful complement to the standard quality assessment tools for distance education institutions. The methodology used in this research has never been used in Mozambique.

Este artigo apresenta uma versão modificada do modelo SERVQUAL para medir a satisfação dos estudantes do Instituto Superior de Ciências e Educação a Distância em Moçambique. O modelo SERVQUAL consiste na utilização de aspectos relacionados aos serviços aos estudantes a distância que são questionados usando o questionário SERVQUAL em duas fases para apurar a diferença entre as expetativas e perceções dos mesmos. Foi feita uma análise dos dados de 348 estudantes cujos resultados mostram a utilidade desta ferramenta para obter a perceção dos estudantes de forma sintética e em formato reduzido que pode ser usado pela administração para tomar decisões informadas. A dimensão Empatia foi a que mais se aproximou das expetativas dos estudantes, enquanto que a dimensão Capacidade de Resposta teve a pior apreciação. Por outro lado, o modelo SERVQUAL pode ser um complemento útil às ferramentas standard de avaliação de qualidade de uma instituição de educação a distância.
